to help students make the most of their
abilities. This skill increases their
chances of succeeding in college by trying.

Peer Tutor Qualifications
The following qualifications are required for all peer
tutors. Peer tutors and all tutoring
activities are under supervision of the Director.
v
3.0
cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale)
v
Grades
of “A” or “B” in courses
v
Successfully
completed at least two semesters at Walters State Community College
v
Interview
with Tutoring Director
v
Good
communications skills
v
A
genuine desire to help other students
v
Ability
to relate to all risk students
Peer Tutor Responsibilities
The peer tutor is responsible for providing each student
with individualized tutoring which will meet the student’s particular needs.
Tutors
are responsible for the following:
v
Documenting material covered on Tutoring Record Sheet
v
Informing Director of any observations or concerns
regarding participant
v
Maintaining a professional demeanor
Guidelines for Success
You will meet your students in the office of Student
Tutoring:
v
Greet
your student warmly, using the student’s name
v
Make
two copies of the syllabus, one for the student’s folder and one for
yourself. Having a copy will allow you
to see requirements, test dates, etc.
v
Stay
focused
v
If
you are having difficulty helping your student, please, consult the Director for assistance.
v
Tutors
along with the Director for Student Tutoring will work together to meet any
special needs of students with disabilities
