MORRISTOWN, Tenn. -- Two pitchers with Walters State ties have been taken early in the third day of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft today by the San Diego Padres.
Sophomore right handed starting pitcher Will Scott was taken by the Padres in the 32nd round as the 964th overall pick. Scott went 9-4 this season with a 3.71 earned run average in 14 starts this season. The Marietta, Ga., native tossed eight complete games and worked 87 1/3 innings this past year. Scott had been drafted previously by the Atlanta Braves and the Colorado Rockies.
Senators signee Mike Ellis, a hard throwing right hander from Surrey, British Columbia, was taken in the 35th round as the 1,054th pick overall by the Padres. Ellis, a 6-foot-2, 175 pound starting pitcher prospect, attends Fleetwood Park School in Canada.
