Martin, Senators Fend Off Scrappy Roane State
MORRISTOWN, Tennessee – Sophomore forward Sirlester Martin posted a double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds as the No. 14 Walters State men's basketball team held off a scrappy Roane State squad, 76-68, Wednesday night at 'Z' Buda Gymnasium.
With the victory, the Senators increased their current winning streak to 22 games and improved to 25-1 overall and 11-2 in the Eastern Division of the TJCCAA. The Raiders fell to 6-20, 1-12.
In addition to Martin's double-double, Walters State got 16 points from freshman guard A.J. Thomas, 13 points and 10 rebounds from freshman forward Laquantis Stewart and nine points and 10 rebounds from freshman forward Michael Jenkins.
Ben Sneed led Roane State with 16 points while Kendall Butler tossed in 15.
The Senators return to action Saturday in a road game at TJCCAA Eastern Division rival Cleveland State. Scheduled start time is 4 p.m.
