Basketball Sweeps St Catherine

The Lady Senators reached 100 points and the Senators survived a battle in a two conference showdowns Saturday afternoon with Saint Catherine College.  With the 100-55 win, the Lady Senators improved to 12-2 on the season.  The Lady Patriots fell to 5-5.  The Senators took a 76-73 win and improved to 15-1, and the Patriots fell to 9-2.

            “It’s rare for a ladies basketball team to reach the 100 point mark in a ball game,” said head coach Dave Kragel.  “We played hard all night and it showed.”

            Jasmin Coleman led the Lady Senators with 18.  She was 8-12 from the floor with a pair of 3-pointers.  Megan Rollins had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Rhon’Neisha Taylor also had 14.  Dana Garrett chipped in 12.points.

            Erin Rogers sank four 3-pointers on her way to 18 points.  Tesha Wright added 14 points and collected seven rebounds.

In the nightcap, the Senators and Patriots exchanged 3-pointers.  AJ Thomas for Walters State and Brandon Russ for St. Catherine each had five. 

“In the closing seconds, it was foul shots that won the game for us,” said head coach Bill Carlyle. “When AJ hit the second free-throw with just a few seconds on the clock, it was a two possession game.  I could start relaxing at that point.  This was a good one.”

Thomas finished with 28 points.  Sirlester Martin finished with a double-double.  He had 1o points and 12 rebounds.  Laquantis Stewart finished with 12. 

Russ finished with 23 points. Arthur Latham had 14 points.  Devin Grigsby and Jeremy Jones each had 11. 

The Lady Senators will play a home game Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m.  They will host the Lady Jaguars of Georgia Perimeter.
