The Waters State basketball teams started the season 2-0 with wins Saturday.  The Lady Senators handled the Lady Hurricanes of Louisburg College 62-33 and the Senators beat the Union College JV Bulldogs 81-67 in the “Z” Buda Assembly Hall and Gymnasium.

The Lady Senators held the Lady Hurricanes to 19 percent shooting and nine points in the first half.  They led 33-9 at the break.

Dana Garrett had a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards.  Jasmin Coleman was 3-4 from beyond the 3-point arc and led all scorers with 16.

Dorothy Corbett led the Lady Hurricanes with nine points; Tiffany McAdoo led in rebounding with five.

“I’m happy with this win,” said head coach Dave Kragel.  “We still have a lot of work to do, but these kids are learning and are coming along.  Dana’s double-double was big, and Jazz (Coleman) had a big game.”

The Senators welcomed former Senators stand-out player and assistant coach Jerry Nichols, now coach of the Union College JV squad, back to the “Z” Buda Gymnasium, but handed him a loss.

Sirlester Martin led the Senators scoring attack with 16 including a 3-pointer.  He was perfect from the charity stripe going 3-3.  Michael Jenkins had 15 points.  AJ Thomas and Terrance Britt each chipped in 11.

Matt Anderson led all scorers with 24.  He drained eight 3-pointers for the Bulldogs.  Lamar Sistrunk added 10 points.

“Each outing this team gets better,” said head coach Bill Carlyle.  “They are playing more like a team.  Of course our first real test will come next weekend at Dyersburg State and Southwest.”

The Lady Senators and Senators will travel to west Tennessee to take on the Eagles of Dyersburg State Friday in the first conference match up of the season.  Saturday they will travel to Memphis to play the Saluqis of Southwest Tennessee.  The Lady Senators will play a tune up game Tuesday, Nov 6 at Spartanburg Methodist College.
