MEMPHIS – The Walters State Lady Senators and Senators took their undefeated records to Southwest Tennessee Community Saturday.  The Lady Senators came up short 67-60.  The Senators came to close to upsetting the Saluqis but fell short by five points 100-95. The Lady Senators are 4-1 (1-1), and the Lady Saluqis are 3-0 (2-0). The Senators are 3-1 (1-1), and the Saluqis are 3-1 (2-0).
Candace Rucker led the Lady Saluqis with 17 points.  She was 3-8 from the floor and 11-14 from the charity strip.  Starkisha Luellen had 11, and Cristil Camper added 10 points.
Dana Garrett led all scorers and recorded her second double-double of the season with 22 points and 12 rebounds.  She was 10-16 from the floor and 2-4 from the free-throw line.  She had nine offensive rebounds.   Jasmine Coleman nailed four 3-pointers and finished with 16.
“This is probably the hardest place to play on the road,” said head coach Dave Kragel.  “To win here, you have to be on top of your game from tip-off to buzzer.  We started out slow and they jumped on us pretty strong.  We played a much better second half.”
AJ Nance had 21 points for the Saluqis.  He was 6-13 from the floor and 8-10 from the free-throw line.   Emmanuel Cheers had 16 points. Quenton Bolton had a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards.
Two Senators had double-doubles.  Laquantis Stewart had 28 points and 10 boards.  Michael Jenkins had 21 points and 12 rebounds.  AJ Thomas had 24 points.
“The game was probably on of the best JUCO (Junior College) games I have been involved with,” said head coach Bill Carlyle.  “We had a chance to win it, but we had some key turnovers that Southwest capitalized on toward the end of the game.”
The Lady Senators and Senators will host the Generals of Jackson State for Pride Night Friday, Nov 16 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the “Z” Buda Assembly Hall and Gymnasium.
