Men & Women Win At Dyersburg

The Walters State Lady Senators and Senators remain unbeaten with conference road wins Friday at Dyersburg State.  The Lady Senators took the opening game 78-59 against the Lady Eagles.  The Senators beat the Eagles 97-88. 

The Lady Senators went to 4-0 with the win, and the Lady Eagles fell to 1-3. Rhon’esha Taylor had 22 for the night.  She was 7-11 with three 3-pointers.  She was 5-5 from the free-throw line.  Jasmin Coleman added 14 points and seven rebounds.  Dana Garrett had 12 points.  Sienna Forney led the Lady Senators in rebounding with eight.

Erica Johnson and Candice Wright each had 14 points for the Lady Eagles.  Aminda Tharp had 11 points, and Veronica Harrell chipped in 10 with seven rebounds. 

“It’s always good to get the win on the road,” said head coach Dave Kragel.  “The team played well, and we got a big game from Rhon’esha.  I’m pleased.”

Laquantis Stewart had 18 points to lead the Senators in the win.  He was 6-11 from the floor and 6-9 from the charity stripe.  Sirlester Martin and Michael Jenkins each had double-doubles.  Jenkins had 17 points and 19 rebounds.  Martin had 13 points and 12 boards.  AJ Thomas was 8-8 from the charity stripe and chipped in a couple of buckets for his 12 points.

George Cole led all scorers with 25.  He was 7-12 from the floor including 6-9 from three point range.  He was also 5-7 form the free-throw line.  Quentin Franks had 15 points and LeVon Lake added 13 points.  Tytus Mann had 10 points.

“This was a tough game,” said head coach Bill Carlyle.  “One moment you have the lead and the next time you look at the score, we’re down by three.  We’ll take the win and prepare for Southwest tomorrow.” 

The Senators improve to 3-0 with the win while the Eagles fell to 2-2.

The Walters State teams continue their road trip and travel to Memphis to play the Saluqis of Southwest Tennessee Community College.  The women will take the court at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m.  The next home game is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 16 when the host the Generals of Jackson State on Pride Night.
