Sibley Sparks Comeback For Senators Against Tigers
MADISONVILLE, Tennessee — Rande Sibley played just four minutes, but the time he spent on the court provided the spark the Walters State men's basketball team needed Wednesday night against Hiwassee.
Sibley drained a trio of 3-pointers in a span of two minutes, bringing the Senators back from a 60-54 deficit to lead 63-60 en route to a 74-64 TJCCAA win.
With the victory, the Senators are 23-1 overall and 10-1 in the TJCCAA Eastern Division while the Tigers fell to 14-9, 4-7.
Freshman forward Laquantis Stewart gunned in a game-high 25 points and yanked down nine rebounds for the Senators. Fellow freshman Michael Jenkins added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, freshman A.J. Thomas tallied 13 points while sophomore Sirlester Martin pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
In the contest, Walters State was 25-of-76 from the floor (7-of-23 on 3-point tries) for 32.0 percent while sinking 17-of-19 charity tosses.
For Hiwassee, Josh Noffiett scored 19 points, Carl Taylor hit five 3-pointers and had 15 points while Alex Goldston had 12.
The Senators return to action Saturday at home against Chattanooga State. Scheduled start time for the crucial TJCCAA Eastern Division contest at 'Z' Buda Gymnasium is 4 p.m.
