Thomas Achieves Ironman Status In Win For Senators
HARRIMAN — Freshman guard Alvin (A.J.) Thomas (Memphis) played all 40 minutes and finished with 23 points as the No. 20 Walters State men's basketball team held off a scrappy Roane State squad, 66-61, Wsvednesday night in TJCCAA Eastern Division action.
With the victory, the Senators collected their 20th win of the season against two losses while improving to 7-2 in conference play. The Raiders fell to 6-18, 1-8.
Thomas was 8-of-17 from the floor, including 5-of-11 from 3-psoint distance, for coach Bill Carlyle's team. Freshman Michael Jenkins (Greenville, S.C.) added 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor while Laquantis Stewart (Batesburg-Leesville, S.C.) netted 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Kendall Butler paced Roane State in scoring with 19 points. Adareus Dixon chipped in 13 points while Justin Givens scored 10.
The Senators take to the hardwood Saturday at home against Motlow State. Scheduled start time at 'Z' Buda Gymnasium is 4 p.m.
