The
Office of Community Education offers noncredit
courses for both business and pleasure. Computer training,
leadership training and medical courses are among the most popular.
The office also develops customized training for area businesses and
offers CEU credit for many classes. Courses like motorcycle safety
offer personal enrichment opportunities and many classes each year
are offered for area preteens and teens. The Office of Community
Education also oversee the Institute for Business and
Industry and the Greeneville Center for Technology. This office also
handles requests to use Walters State facilities on all campuses.
Walters State’s Center for Workforce
Development is the administrative entity for Workforce Investment
Area 2, which comprises the 10 counties in the college’s primary
service area. With partner agencies, it serves both job seekers and
employers through the Five Rivers Regional Career Center and
affiliate centers in Dandridge, Greeneville, Maynardville, New
Tazewell, Newport and Rogersville. The Center for Workforce
Development also provides youth enrichment and development
initiatives through WIA Youth Services.
The Center for Workforce Education is a partnership between the
college, area industries and other training providers. Funded by a
Department of Labor Grant, the center provides an opportunity for
employers to receive customized training. For workers, both employed
and unemployed, the center offers a way to upgrade current skills. A
Tennessee Career Center is located within the Center for Workforce
Education, making it a convenient, one-stop shop for people seeking
new or better jobs. For more information, call (423) 318-2340.
