Walters State Community College offers an Associate of Arts
degree in Mass Communications. This degree is designed to fulfill freshman and
sophomore level course requirements of a bachelor’s degree; however, the
curriculum is not specific for any one college or university. Students will
need to consult a faculty advisor at WSCC or an advisor at the intended
transfer institution for particular courses needed at an individual school.

A major in Mass Communications prepares students for a
variety of career fields, including reporting, advertising, television
producing, copywriting, and public relations. Mass Communications majors study
the different media through which we communicate with large numbers of people.
Advertising majors learn to use techniques for selling products or services.
Public relations specialists learn theories and techniques used to influence
perceptions held by the public concerning people, products, services or
issues. Students usually develop writing, computer, research, editing, and
marketing skills. Jobs in this field are often stressful due to deadlines and
expectations for results, and the job market is very competitive.
