Career and Major Information:
A major in African-American Studies will introduce students
to history, culture, social development, politics and life in general as
experienced by people of African descent. Intellectually, students will be
given an opportunity to critically examine, analyze, and interpret the
experiences, traditions and dynamics of African-Americans, and in so doing, to
develop a better understanding of humankind. African-American Studies may be
of interest to those who are considering graduate school and/or a career in
education, journalism, law, business management, city planning, international
relations, politics, psychology, publishing, or social work. This major is
designed to give a broad liberal arts perspective with a specialized
