Statement of Purpose:
The Humanities Division encourages individuals to
analyze, interpret and refine their experiences
as they seek to determine who they are and what
their lives ought to mean. The program assists
the student in the acquisition of theoretical and
practical knowledge relating to: 1) the history
and appreciation of art, theatre and music; 2)
the philosophical and value foundations of human
belief structures; 3) the abilities of thinking
critically and writing effectively; 4) the
sensibility to literature of the Western world;
5) the development of conversational skills in
foreign languages and oral communication; 6) the
general and interdisciplinary studies relating to
women, minority populations and the arts; and 7)
the performance aspects of music, theatre and
art. A developmental education program in reading
and writing is provided. |
