Excel, Drone Pilot Prep Among April Noncredit Classes

The Walters State Division of Workforce Training will offer OSHA training, parenting and divorce online and the drone pilot certification prep course.

Classes offered online.
• Parenting and Divorce is offered from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on April 2 and April 23. Choose one. The cost is $60. The class meets the Tennessee requirement that divorcing parents take a parenting course. This class will improve communications skills and make the process less traumatic for everyone, especially children. This is offered via the Zoom videoconferencing platform. 
• Microsoft Excel Level 1 is offered on April 24 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The cost is $150. Students will learn to create, save and print Excel Documents. The class also covers formatting, functions and page layout features. This is offered over the Zoom videoconferencing platform. Students needing a computer or internet access may take it at the Niswonger Campus in Greeneville, the Morristown Campus or the Newport Center.

Classes offered at the Niswonger Campus
• OSHA 30 Hour Safety Training – General Industry is offered April 1-4, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The cost is $449. This class covers workplace hazards and worker rights. Supervisors, team leaders, safety professionals and safety committee members will benefit from this class. The training reduces downtime and could prevent workplace injuries.
• OSHA #500 Occupational Health and Safety Standard for General Industry Training is offered April 8-11, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The cost is $800. This class covers OSHA policies, procedures and standards while also highlighting general health and safety principles. A copy of the 29 CFR 1910 General Industry Standards is included with the registration fee. Participants must successfully pass a written exam at the end of the course. The OSHA 30 Hour Safety Training is not considered equivalent to the OSHA #500 class. The OSHA #500 class is one of two prerequisites for the OSHA #501 trainer class.
• Part 107 (Drone) Pilot Certification Prep is offered April 8-12, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The cost is $1,890. This class provides preparation for the FAA Part 107 examination. The actual exam is not included in the class. Students who complete the class will receive a TRUST federal certificate and a CrossFlight bronze medal to show employers as proof of training.

Classes Offered at the Walters State Workforce Training Building in Greeneville
• Welding Level 1 Stick Welding will be offered from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesdays April 23-May 21. The cost is $379. This course introduces Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick) process. This is widely used in manufacturing, construction and repair industries. All hands-on exercises are self-paced. Individuals may be able to develop basic entry level skills or improve existing skills.
